Maastricht-Hasselt Railway

Past the Vierendeelbridge across the Albertcanal the track disappears from sight until it surfaces again in Eigenbilzen from the bushes !

At Eigenbilzen for a few hundred meters the track follows the road on streetlevel, after that it descends into a deep excavation. (station-location?)

Across this excavation there are two viaducts. The first one seems to be the oldest.

In Munsterbilzen was on this location a larger stationhouse, from where trains were being served until the late 50th..

During the reconstruction of the road the railway crossing had to disappear.

Driving in the Spurk direction we find an old railway crossing. Rails still in the pavement.

At Spurk 3 railroads come together. The oldest line is Maastricht-Hasselt, then the connection Beverst-Bilzen and the higher line Genk-Bilzen. At this railroad junction is a tangle of viaducts and railway crossings. To make it more clear the locations are numbered; you can also click on a mumber to orientate.

1  The rails in the former railway crossing of the Ribusweg in Spurk is covered with sand.
