The line Liège-Longdoz-Maastricht was opened on November 24, 1861, by the "Liège-Maestricht" Company, as part of the Line 40. It was overtaken by the Belgian State 1899.
Between 1977 and 1985 the whole line was supplied with overhead wiring.

The station in Eysden was a comprehensive borderstation with all customs-facilities, nowadays only a part of the station house is left, and not even being served at the time being.
Historical fact is that the German Emperor arrived here with his royal train at the end of WW I to ask for asylum in the Netherlands.

At Visé the line crosses the freight line 24 by fly-over. Between Visé and Liège there are no stops anymore.

Since 2006 the Maastricht-Brussel Express came in service, and connects Maastricht with Brussels, Paris and London.
